Definition and contour along the jawline and lower face
A jawline consultation in Richmond assesses the definition and contour of your jawline and lower face, looking at how the line from ear to chin is holding and what is shaping its appearance.

Understanding this concern
The jawline frames the lower third of the face and gives it structure. A defined jawline reads as a clean line from below the ear to the chin, while a softer contour tends to blur that line where the face meets the neck.
How defined a jawline looks depends on bone structure, the amount and position of soft tissue, skin quality and the underlying angle of the jaw. Because several factors combine, two people describing the same concern can have quite different reasons for it, which is why the lower face is assessed as a whole.
What people often notice
- Natural bone structure and jaw angle, which set the underlying shape of the lower face
- Shifts in soft tissue over time, which can soften a previously crisp line
- Changes in skin firmness along the jaw and where it transitions to the neck
- Weight changes and genetics, which influence how much definition shows through
A personal, in-person assessment
What Jolene assesses
- The line of the jaw from below the ear to the chin and where definition is lost
- The contribution of bone structure and jaw angle to the overall contour
- The amount and position of soft tissue along the lower face and beneath the chin
- Skin firmness and how the jawline transitions into the neck
What affects suitability
- Your general health, medical history and any medications that may be relevant
- Whether your concern is driven by bone structure, soft tissue, skin or a combination
- Whether your goals are realistic for your underlying anatomy
- Individual suitability, which differs between people and is assessed in person
What happens during this consultation
This is an in-person appointment of about 45 minutes at our Bridge Road clinic, led by Jolene, a cosmetic nurse. She will look at your lower face from the front and side, feel along the jawline where appropriate and ask what you notice most about the contour.
You will discuss which factors are shaping the appearance of your jawline and which options, if any, may be appropriate, with their considerations and risks. Personalised recommendations follow the assessment, and there is no pressure to proceed.
Risks and limitations. Options, risks and results differ between individuals. Definition set by bone structure, softening caused by tissue changes and skin firmness are different matters that may call for different approaches or none at all. Some aspects of the lower face may be better addressed another way, and in some cases the honest recommendation is that no intervention is needed. Nothing is decided or promised before an in-person assessment.
What to bring or share
- Photos of your face from the front and side, including any that show your concern clearly
- A list of any medications, supplements and relevant medical history
- Notes on whether the change is recent or gradual, and what prompted your interest

Frequently asked questions
What decides how defined my jawline looks?
Several things combine: the underlying bone structure and jaw angle, the amount and position of soft tissue, and the firmness of the skin along the jaw and neck. The assessment identifies which of these is most relevant to what you are noticing.
Is a softer jawline just about weight?
Not only. Weight can play a part, but bone structure, tissue changes over time and skin firmness all contribute. Jolene assesses the lower face as a whole rather than assuming a single cause.
Will you tell me the best option on the day?
Jolene will share personalised observations and any options that may be appropriate, along with their considerations and risks. Individual suitability differs between people, so recommendations are made with you after the in-person assessment.
How long does the appointment take and what does it cost to book?
The consultation runs for about 45 minutes in person at our Richmond clinic and is secured with a $30 booking deposit. There is no obligation to proceed with anything discussed.
