Skin Concerns

How your skin changes over time, explained honestly

An ageing skin consultation in Richmond looks at how your skin's surface changes with time: firmness, elasticity and fine surface lines. It is a skin-quality conversation, not a treatment prescription.

The concern

Understanding this concern

As skin ages, its structure gradually changes. It can become less firm and less elastic, surface lines can appear more readily, and the skin may take longer to bounce back after movement. These changes are normal, but understanding them helps you make informed decisions about how you care for your skin.

This consultation stays at the level of skin quality: how the surface looks and behaves as it matures. Jolene explains what she observes and what typically drives these changes, so you have a realistic sense of what is happening rather than a sales pitch for any single approach.

What people often notice

  • Skin that feels less firm or springy than it once did
  • Fine surface lines that are more visible when skin is dry or in certain light
  • A slightly slower recovery in the skin after smiling or frowning
  • A general sense that your skin looks more tired or less resilient with age
In the consultation

During your visit

What happens during this consultation

This is an approximately 45-minute in-person appointment at our Richmond clinic on Bridge Road, led by Jolene, a cosmetic nurse. She reviews the surface qualities of your skin, discusses how it has changed, and explains the factors involved in plain language.

You will leave with personalised recommendations for what may be appropriate at a skin-quality level, and honest guidance about what is likely to make a meaningful difference. There is no pressure to proceed.

Risks and limitations. Skin ageing is influenced by genetics, sun exposure and lifestyle, and options, risks and results differ between individuals. Some visible changes can be supported with skincare and sun protection, some may be better addressed another way, and some are a natural part of ageing that need no intervention. Any recommendation depends on an individual assessment, and no outcome can be promised in advance.

What to bring or share

  • The skincare products you currently use, including any sunscreen
  • A note of the changes you have noticed and roughly when they began
  • Details of your general health, medications and sun exposure history

Frequently asked questions

Is this a treatment consultation?

No. This appointment stays at the level of skin quality, looking at how firmness, elasticity and surface lines change with age. Any recommendations are discussed individually based on what Jolene assesses.

Why does skin become less firm over time?

The skin's supporting structures change with age, and factors such as sun exposure can speed this up. Jolene explains what she observes for your skin and the factors most relevant to you.

Can anything realistically help ageing skin?

Some changes can be supported through skincare and sun protection, while others are a natural part of ageing. Jolene will be honest about what is and is not likely to make a difference for you.
