Cheek and mid-face support: what a Richmond consultation looks at

The cheeks and mid-face carry much of the structure people read when they look at your face. This cheek consultation in Richmond is an in-person assessment with cosmetic nurse Jolene to understand how the centre of your face is supported and what, if anything, may be appropriate.

The concern

Understanding this concern

The mid-face is the region between the lower eyelids and the corners of the mouth, built around the cheekbone and the soft tissue that sits over it. When that soft tissue is well supported, the face tends to look balanced from the front and from the side. When support shifts, people often notice the change here first.

Cheek and mid-face concerns are rarely about one thing. Bone position, the volume of the fat pads over the cheek, skin thickness and how tissue settles over time all play a part. Two people describing the same concern can have quite different underlying reasons for it, which is why an in-person look matters more than a general rule.

What people often notice

  • Flattening or loss of projection across the front of the cheek, so the face reads less structured than it once did
  • Soft tissue that appears to have settled lower over the mid-face, changing how light falls across it
  • A deeper line or shadow running from the side of the nose toward the mouth
  • Photographs that look different from the side or in overhead lighting, even when the mirror seems fine
In the consultation

A personal, in-person assessment

What Jolene assesses

  • The underlying bone structure of the cheek and how much natural projection it gives the mid-face
  • How soft tissue and the cheek fat pads are distributed and whether that distribution has changed
  • Skin quality over the mid-face, including thickness and how the tissue sits when you are relaxed and when you smile
  • How the cheek relates to the eye area, the nose and the jawline, so the region is assessed as part of the whole face rather than in isolation

What affects suitability

  • Your general health, relevant medical history and any medications that could affect suitability
  • What you are noticing and what a realistic, proportionate result would look like for your face
  • Whether the concern is better explained by mid-face structure or by something in a neighbouring area such as the lower face or skin quality
  • Your own priorities, including whether you would prefer to address the mid-face, address something else first, or leave it as it is
During your visit

What happens during this consultation

The appointment runs for approximately 45 minutes and is led by Jolene at the Richmond clinic on Bridge Road. She will ask what prompted you to look into your cheeks and mid-face, then examine the area in good light and often against your own photographs.

You will discuss what she observes, which factors may be contributing and what options might be appropriate for your situation. Suitability is individual, so any recommendation is personalised to you rather than a fixed package. There is no pressure to proceed on the day.

Risks and limitations. Options, risks and results differ between individuals. A mid-face concern that suits one approach for one person may not suit the same approach for another, and some concerns are better addressed a different way, addressed alongside something else, or left alone. Nothing is decided or promised before Jolene has assessed you in person, and she will be candid if she thinks the mid-face is not where your attention is best directed.

What to bring or share

  • Any recent photographs of yourself, including older ones, if you want to show how the area has changed
  • A list of your current medications, supplements and relevant medical history
  • A note of the specific things you have noticed and any questions you want answered

Frequently asked questions

Is the cheek consultation just about the cheekbones?

No. Jolene looks at the cheekbone as the underlying frame, but also at the soft tissue over it, your skin and how the mid-face relates to the eyes, nose and jawline. The cheek is assessed as part of the whole face.

Will I be told exactly what to do at the appointment?

You will get Jolene's honest assessment of what she observes and what may be appropriate for your situation. Suitability is individual, so anything discussed is personalised. There is no obligation to proceed, and no treatment or outcome is decided before an in-person assessment.

How much does the consultation cost?

A $30 booking deposit secures your appointment. The consultation runs for approximately 45 minutes with cosmetic nurse Jolene in Richmond. Any recommendations and their costs are discussed with you individually after she has assessed you.

What if my concern turns out to be somewhere other than the cheek?

That happens, and it is useful to know. Mid-face changes can be linked to the lower face, the eye area or skin quality. If Jolene thinks another area explains what you are noticing, she will tell you and can point you toward a more suitable assessment.

The information on this page is general in nature and is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a recommendation for any specific treatment or product. Any procedure carries risks. Whether any option is appropriate for you, and what those options and risks are, can only be determined during an in-person consultation.
